Chief Representative for Ashoka in China, Mr. Patrick Cheung

Mr. Patrick Cheung is the country representative for Ashoka-China and founding director of Hong Kong Social Entrepreneurship Forum. Mr. Cheung holds a Master degree in International Relations and Public Affaires at the University of Hong Kong and completed the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School in 1986.

Ashoka is the global association of the world’s leading social entrepreneurs—men and women with system changing solutions for the world’s most urgent social problems. Since 1981, Ashoka has elected over 2,000 leading social entrepreneurs as Ashoka Fellows, providing them with living stipends, professional support, and access to a global network of peers in more than 60 countries. With the global community, Ashoka develops models for collaboration and designs infrastructure needed to advance the field of social entrepreneurship and the citizen sector.

張瑞霖先生是一名企業家,其事業從為跨國企業工作開始,在他1989年移居加拿大之前的八年間,他使公司的業務從零銷售增長至一億港元。三年後,張先生建立了自己的公司,在中國經營軟包裝業務,並在十五年間把營業額發展至達拾億港元。他其後把業務出售予位列福布斯二百強公司的加拿大鋁業集團。

張先生是社會創業論壇的其中一位創始董事,於2006年至2009起出任苗圃行動的財務董事。他成功地把「黑暗中對話」引入香港,並集資成立黑暗中對話香港有限公司。在2009年,張先生獲Ashoka委任為大中華地區的代表。

張先生在香港大學取得社會科學學位,並曾就讀於哈佛商學院管理發展課程及歐洲工商管理學院管理課程。最近他更在香港大學取得國際關係學碩士學位

 

 

 

Director General of the Center for China and Globalization (CCG), Dr. Wang Huiyao

Dr. Wang is the Founding Director General of Center for China & Globalization (CCG) and Vice Chairman of China Western Returned Scholars Association (WRSA), the largest Chinese overseas returned scholars' organization in China with over 40,000 members. He is also the Founder of WRSA Chamber of Commerce and WRSA 2005 Committee. In addition, he is Vice Chairman of China International Economic Cooperation Society under Ministry of Commerce and Vice Chairman of China Talents Research Society. Dr. Wang was also appointed as an expert's group leader for global talents strategy study by Chinese Government Talents Coordination Office as well as a team leader for economic group of Overseas Experts Advisory Committee for China State Council Overseas Chinese Affairs Office. Furthermore, he is a Deputy Director of Central Economic Committee of China Jiu San Society and is an advisor to China People's Political Consultative Conference Beijing Committee. 


Dr. Wang is well known for his initiatives and leadership for social organizations and think tanks in China. He has been an advisor to the Chinese government, established enterprises and social organizations in China. Dr. Wang used to work in MOFTEC (now Ministry of Commerce) in China. In North America, he worked as Director--Asia for SNC-Lavalin and later became Vice President of Agra International Group (now AMEC Group), both are among the largest engineering and project management firms in the world. He was also appointed as Chief Trade Counselor at Commission of Canada in Hong Kong for Quebec Government Affairs. He also served as a senior China adviser to GE, Siemens, ABB, Alstom, Westinghouse and Mitsubishi and so on. 


Dr. Wang obtained his BA degree in China and later continued his studies at Ivey Business School of University of Western Ontario and Manchester Business School, obtained his PhD degree in international management and took further training at Harvard Business School. He is a visiting professor of Ivey Business School of University of Western Ontario and Guanghua Management School of Peking University. Dr. Wang has published over 20 books and numerous articles and papers on the international business and Chinese global talent issues, including his books such as < Contemporary Chinese Returnees>, and so forth.  


Dr. Wang is a frequent speakers at different Chinese and international forums and often interviewed by well known media such as CCTV, China Daily, People's Daily, BBC, CNN, NHK,  Economist, Financial Times, Newsweek, USA Today, CBC, Canadian Business, Global and Mail, South China Morning Post, Tsingtao, Minpao papers and others.

     历任中国经贸部官员,全球最大工程咨询公司之一SNC-Lavalin国际公司董事经理和世界最大项目管理公司之一AMEC-Agra国际公司副总裁,加拿大驻香港领事团负责魁北克事务的首席商务经济参赞,曾任GE、西门子、西屋、ABB, 三菱、阿尔斯通等多家跨国公司顾问。曾担任中国侨联华商会副会长和北京市华商会首任会长。

     七七级广外英美文学专业毕业,留学欧美,在加拿大西安大略大学毅伟商学院和英国曼切斯特大学商学院攻读,获国际商务管理博士学位,曾在美国哈佛大学商学院进修。在智库研究、国际商务管理、国际人才, 海归创业与中国企业走出去等领域有广泛的实践和学术研究,出版有关著作20多部和有关专业文章50多篇,包括《新华商之路》、《MBA 通才之道》、《海归时代》、《创业中国》、《当代中国海归》、《海归推动中国》、《开放你的人生》、《人才战争》和《中国留学人才发展报告》等一批有影响的著作。

     王辉耀博士是中国改革开放后第一批出国学习MBA的留学生,第一批在中外政府部门和国际跨国公司工作过的留学生,也是最早回国创业和在大学任教的一批海归。他热心公益和社会事业,是中国与全球化研究中心,欧美同学会商会和2005委员会的发起人和创办者,凝聚了一大批近年来在国内外有影响、有成就和有思想的海归,创办了国际上有影响力的中国海归智库,其组织的有关政策建议多次受到国家领导和有关部委的高度重视。

     曾经作为首位中国大陆的人士被加拿大《商业周刊》选登为封面人物;在第6届世界华商大会上被媒体誉为“新华商的代表人物”;被国家发改委《中国投资》评为中国首届“中华海归十大创业人物”、被《时尚》杂志评为“中国首届时尚先生”,被《中关村》杂志和新浪网站评为“中国最受尊重的十大海归人物”。

Representative for the Ford Foundation in China, Mr. John Fitzgerald

John Fitzgerald is representative of the Ford Foundation's office in Beijing. In this position he develops the overall strategy and direction of the foundation's work in China, which emphasizes opportunities for poor and marginal communities to participate fully and equally in China's development. His individual grant making focuses on U.S.-China relations and civil society issues, aiming to build new-generation expertise on the United States and China, and to support Chinese institutions in strengthening domestic infrastructure for the lawful development of civil society. Before joining the Ford Foundation in 2008, John was head of the School of Social Sciences at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia, and director of the International Center of Excellence in Asia-Pacific Studies at the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra. He served as a member of the Australia-China Council of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and as chairman of the Committee for National and International Cooperation of the Australian Research Council. He also served as president of the Chinese Studies Association of Australia. His publications include "Awakening China: Politics, Culture and Class in the Nationalist Revolution" (Stanford University Press, 1996), which was awarded the Joseph Levenson Prize for 20th Century China by the US Association for Asian Studies, and "Big White Lie: Chinese Australians in White Australia" (University of New South Wales Press, 2007), which received the Ernest Scott Prize in Australian History from the Australian Historical Association. John has a Ph.D. in Chinese history from ANU and held a Fulbright postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

 

 

 

Founder of Collective Responsibility and Hands on China, Mr. Richard Brubaker

Like many who came to China, Rich Brubaker first arrived to seek out career opportunities as China’s economy gathered steam. In pursuing those goals he developed market entry and distribution strategies for firms who were also looking for China based opportunities.

Soon after arriving in Shanghai, Richard developed his first community enterprise HandsOn Shanghai (now HandsOn China) as a means to promote, develop and manage volunteerism in China. This endeavor soon opened him up to the human side of the economic engine that was fueling China’s growth, ultimately leading him to develop platforms that examines issues relating to sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Currently, as the Managing Director of Collective Responsibility and a Visiting Professor of Sustainability at the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), Richard is focused on building platforms that promote long term organizational capacity to address the economic, environmental, and social hurdles that China faces as the country’s economic growth accelerates.

Richard also launched Cleaner Greener China to highlight the environmental challenges that China faces. The blog also spotlights the people and companies involved in developing sustainable solutions to address this issue.

Richard holds a Masters in International Management from the Thunderbird, The Garvin School of International Management. He also served as the Vice Chairman of the Corporate Social Responsibility Committee with the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai for three consecutive years.

Rich是美国雷鸟商学院的国际管理硕士,曾3年担任上海美国商会企业社会责任委员会的副主席,最近他启动了Cleaner Greener China 项目,强调中国面对的环境问题,以及发展解决方案的个人、产品和公司.

 

 

 

Principal Investment Officer of the International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group, Dr. Yao Li

Dr. Li Yao, based in Beijing, is the Principal Investment Officer of East Asia and Pacific Department of IFC. IFC is a member of World Bank Group with the mission to support the sustainable development of private sector in developing countries.

Dr. Li has been with IFC over 10 years and has participated in various investment activities for IFC’s China program. Such programs have greatly contributed the sustainable growth of China private sector. Recent years, Dr. Li focuses more on the new areas including climate change and clean tech which World Bank Group emphasizes significantly in China. Before joined IFC, Dr. Li spent 5 years with Bank of China and helped to build up its domestic investment banking business line. 

 

 

With Moderator: Deputy Director of the NGO Research Center at Tsinghua University, Ms. Xijin Jia

Xijin Jia, PhD, Research Fellow at the Hauser Center, Associate Professor and Deputy Director of the NGO Research Center at Tsinghua University in China. Her research area is Civil Society and Governance, focusing on comparative studies, citizen participation, NGO-Government relationships, and political reform in transforming countries. Professor Jia has extensive experience in field research and pilot studies on civil society in China. She has been the Task Leader for the Government Procurement Project for ADB, and the National Coordinator for the international comparative program of Civil Society Index. She has published 4 books, and more than 40 articles. Professor Jia received her PhD at Peking University with a major in Sociology, and Master and Bachelor Degree of Medicine at Beijing Medical University. She has two years experience as an intern in Mental Health Hospital with a major in Social Psychiatry.
