Global China Review Publication

 
Global China Review is a semi-annual publication produced by the members of Global China Connection, reflecting our goal to foster connections, dialogue, and understanding between China and the rest of the world.

The publication focuses on a wide array of issues such as business, international relations, environment policy and sustainable development, scientific research, education, and culture. While the topics may vary, all articles are written for, and by, university students who share a global perspective and believe that China’s global role will continue to expand. We are looking for content that both stimulates interest and provides relevant and practical information.

Why write for Global China Review?

Be heard.
We are looking for at least one article in the following categories: business, international relations, environmental policy and sustainable development, scientific research, education, and culture. GCC would like your feedback on issues pertaining to China and the rest of the world.

Be seen.
Have you written for your campus newspaper or academic journals? Do you regularly update a blog? Want to start a video or audio podcast? Submit your articles, essays, or blog entries to showcase your writing.

Be recognized.
Do you want to be more involved in GCC? Have your work published in Global China Review to increase your writing experience, enhance your resume, and network with others with similar interests.


Article Submissions

  • Guidelines & Standards

    GCC is not only looking for content on China, but specifically, information that is relevant to university students and young professionals.

    GCC is looking for analysis, not punditry – all content should contain at least one fact, preferably more, for every opinion.

    It goes without saying that you must use proper grammar and correct spelling. Rough drafts will not be accepted.

  • Language, Grammar & Style

    Both Chinese and English content are welcome. For English content, follow American spelling and usage.

    Articles must be longer than 1000 words in English or 1500 characters in Chinese.

    Provide brief biographical information with your full name, GCC chapter affiliation, and major as well as a 3- to 4-sentence summary or description of your article. Use English for English articles and Chinese for Chinese articles.

    For direct quotations, use double quote marks. For English names of publications and multimedia, use italics.

    For English content, include the Chinese characters for the name of people, publications, multimedia, companies, and organizations after the English or Pinyin name.

  • Headlines, Images & Links

    Include a headline that is descriptive and quickly conveys the topic of the article. Headlines should be between 25 to 75 characters long, counting spaces.

    All posts should have an image and caption. Captions must convey different information from the headline, and may be humorous where appropriate.

    There should be no links within the body of the article (links should instead be in the bibliography at the end of the article). Hyperlinks may be used where fitting and effective.

  • A Word on Attributions

    GCC is a student-run organization, and as such, follows academic standards regarding citations. Content submitted for Global China Review should be similarly meticulous in giving credit to all direct quotations, paraphrased statements, and borrowed ideas. Citations must be in the Chicago Manual of Style:http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide.html. It is necessary to clearly indicate which ideas and what language are yours, and which ones are drawn from others.

  • Deadline & Joining the Global China Review Team

    The deadline for submissions is November 1, 2011. Global China Review is also in need of English and Chinese copy editors (to review grammar and spelling) and layout managers. Please emailmedia@gccglobal.org if you can serve in those ways.

    Please e-mail your article, essay, or blog entry to media@gccglobal.org with the subject heading “Global China Review Submission”. We will review and respond to your submission by November 15, 2011 and hope to feature it in the next outgoing issues of Global China Review.
